Every year on 8th March, International Women's Day (IWD) celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender parity, women empowerment, and development. The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March 2023 (IWD 2023) is, “Digital: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. This theme is aligned with the priority of Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
In this continuation, Samaj Kalyan O Unnayan Shangstha (SKUS) has celebrated and observed “International Women’s Day-2023 on 12 March under 6 camps supported by UNICEF. SKUS organized different interventions through the participation of learners, parents, and community people such as art competitions, paragraph writing, discussion meeting & prize giving ceremonies, and other campaign programs in the 95 Learning Facilities under Camp-4, 5,16, 17, and 18, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
About 7000 children and 700 parents, teachers and community members, and other stakeholders attended the program. To make the events more successful and to encourage the learners, Honorable Camp In-charge Md. Manoar Hossain, of Camp- 18, Md. Dawood Hossain Chowdhury, camp in charge, camp-4, and Md. Rayhan Ali, Assistant camp In charge, camp-17 & 8W has present as the chief guest. SKUS project coordinator, MEAL Officer, Technical Officer, respective program Organizers and Community Mobilization Officer (CMO), and Site management lead, camp-17 attended the program also.
Honorable Camp in charge (CiC) of different Camps inaugurated the event by cutting the cake/ enjoying cake feasible. SKUS gifted the Crest to respective honorable CiC on International Women’s Day-2023. The respective Camp In charge also thanked SKUS for arranging the different events through the participation of LCs learners’ parents and the community. They said that, a need to raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education and the continuation of their education across the girls, parents, and community at the camp level.
The camp In charge, camp-4, also requested teachers and parents to create equal opportunities for girls and boys at Learning facilities and at the family level and develop mutual respect. Camp in charge, camp-18 gives importance to Education as the only key to empowering Girls, and Women, who need to ensure gender-sensitive and inclusive learning environments, especially for girls. He also requested to SKUS and UNICEF take to the initiative to provide uniforms to LCs learners. After discussion meetings, the Honorable Camp In charge gave the prize to the winners’ learners.
